Integrated Pupil Support Policy

Purpose

This policy provides a summary statement of the rationale of the work of Integrated Pupil Support.

The IPS Team:

• provides individualised pastoral support for each pupil
• provides a Personal Social Education (PSE) programme which includes helping equip each pupil with the skills and confidence to develop –
 • qualities of self-esteem
 • respect and care for others
 • a commitment to learning for life
 • a sense of belonging to different communities
 • confidence in coping with life in a changing world
 • self-evaluation/self-reflection
 • responsibility for his/her own learning

Principles

The IPST has been created to bring together the traditionally discrete support structures of Guidance Learning and Behaviour Support and Additional Support Needs provision.  This integration helps the school better develop the four capacities of ACE.

The IPST:

• promote the highest possible attainment and achievement for each pupil
• works in partnership with parents to improve learning
• works in partnerships with other agencies and its community
• systematically focuses on the personal. social and emotional needs of each individual pupil and provides support as appropriate
• monitors and tracks pupil progress and contributes to the Personal Learning Planning (PLP) process
• supports whole school target setting for individual pupils
• writes reports on pupils as required by external agencies
