Learning Community Policy
Purpose
This policy provides an overview of the High school’s role within the Tweeddale Learning Community.
It is intended to:
• outline the philosophy, principles and practice of the development of the Learning Community
• serve as a record of the curriculum, learning and teaching, assessment along with relationships and structures
• offer a context and support for monitoring and evaluating
Principles
The learning community has been formed to address learners’ and society’s needs and is based on the four capacities and seven principles from The Curriculum for Excellence.
The learning community:
• is pro-active to ensure the progressive development of young people enabling them to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society and work
• values consultation and partnership working between all stakeholders, expounds collegiality, multi-tiered leadership and mutual respect
• provides unique experiences which inspire achievement and success
• works co-operatively, together with the wider community towards a common purpose and shares the same vision, values and aims
• is based on a thorough knowledge of learners, the transfer of clear information about them and effective use of this information by staff in the receiving phase
• is responsive to individual circumstances and recognises that more vulnerable young people require additional and more sustained support
• involves Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for staff as a means of sharing understanding across all sectors
• has a common focus for improvement
• involves all stakeholders in its developments – pupils, staff, parents, other agencies and local communities
Changes to the learning community will be based on well-considered rationale, involving consultation with stakeholders and monitored and evaluated for impact on learning
