Quality Improvement Policy

Purpose

This policy provides an overview of the Quality Improvement processes and is intended to:

• demonstrate how working with all stakeholders, the statutory and legal requirement to ensure the quality of such key aspects as curriculum, learning and teaching, assessment, transition and leadership is fulfilled within the school
• make explicit the link between shared critical reflection and school improvement
• outlines the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders in the process
• provide a rationale for strategic and operational decision making

Principles

The quality improvement process has been devised to meet learners and society’s needs and is based on ‘How good is our school?’(Version 3) publications and advice, along with Journey to Excellence

The quality improvement process:

• serves to monitor and evaluate the life and work of the school
• places the learning experience at the centre of the process
• follows national and local authority guidelines
• promotes achievement and attainment
• engages and involves all stakeholders
• supports and challenges all stakeholders
• ensures reflective practice leads to action
• recognises and learns from existing good practice
• uses, adapts and creates relevant quantitative and qualitative information
• focuses on well-founded decision-making at all levels
• allows improvement planning to be placed in a local and national context
• is continuous and embedded
• is flexible and spontaneous.

Changes to the quality improvement process will be based on well-considered rationale, involving consultation with stakeholders and monitored and evaluated for impact on the learning experience.
