Activities

While the Department does not run a formal Art Club, pupils are encouraged to use the facilities of the department at lunchtimes and, if available, at other times in the week.  This offer is taken up particularly by younger pupils in S1and S2, but at certain times of the year the department becomes a hive of activity at lunchtimes and after school hours, as pupils take the opportunity to complete unfinished course-work.

Living in a rural area, the opportunity for regular visits to city galleries and museums is limited.  The town of Peebles has a modest but very active museum and gallery and at various times in the year, groups from the department make use of the facility for visits to relevant exhibitions or to participate in organised art “events”.

Further afield, however, the department has been involved in popular and stimulating visits to the Edinburgh College of Art Fashion Show and various gallery visits and it is hoped that, in future, this type of activity will be increased and develop into an established feature of our annual programme of events.

Other activities undertaken include, an annual exhibition of pupil work in the Peebles Arts Festival, visits to local sites for ‘location drawing‘ and participation in Art College Open Days, where aspiring students can experience the life of the college and gather useful information to support their application for entry to various courses.
