Aims and Introduction


Aims and Introduction

1.   To provide a suitable computer course for all S1 pupils.

2.   To provide a suitable Information Skills course for all S2 pupils.

3.   To provide a Standard Grade Computing course for pupils in S3/S4.

4.   To provide a Higher Grade Computing course, and Int1 and Int 2 Computing and Information Systems courses for pupils in S5 and/or S6.

5.   To provide ACC 3 and other suitable  units for pupils in S5/S6.

6.   To provide, where necessary,  suitable short computer awareness courses of a non-examinable or interest nature for pupils in S3 - S6.

7.   To promote the uptake of the above courses within the school, especially with regard to S3 (Standard Grade) and S5/S6 Higher Still.

8.   To ensure that the above courses are taught effectively with efficient and relevant use of available resource material.

9.   To identify areas within these courses where resource material is inadequate or lacking and to generate suitable materials to overcome any shortfalls.

10. To keep abreast with developments in the new technologies, computing and computer education.

11. To ensure that  parents and pupils are correctly advised as to suitable and appropriate  course choices in S3 and S5.

12. To liaise closely with the Guidance / Careers team within the school.

13. To liaise closely with the Educational Support Unit within the school.

14. To liaise closely with SBC Adviser in Computer Education.

15. To liaise closely with the associated primary schools, particularly to ensure continuity and avoid overlap under 5-14.

16. To motivate pupils and encourage the development of interests in computers and related technologies outwith the course being followed.

17. To implement and maintain computerised assessment, recording and reporting procedures for pupil achievement.

18. To keep parents well informed, by means of a standard form of reporting, of their child's progress throughout their chosen course of study.

19. To forge and maintain links with computer users in the local community.

20. To forge and maintain links with local industry and commerce involved with technology.

21.  To encourage other school departments to use computer facilities and assist departments in the use of Information Technology.

22. To consider and implement where necessary the provision for returning adult participation in day-school courses, both certificate and non-certificate.

23. To establish and maintain appropriate safety regulations and practices within computing rooms.

24.  To establish and maintain departmental software and hardware inventories.
