Welcome to the English Department

The English Department at PHS is a large, expanding department, which has already grown beyond its new accommodation in the Millennium Wing.  English plays a large role both in the academic and extra-curricular life of the school.  As a core subject English is compulsory from S1-S5, after which it becomes optional.

The full range of courses is offered, from 5-14 in S1&2, through Standard Grade in S3&4, to Higher, Intermediate 2 & Intermediate 1 in S5 and finally to Advanced Higher in S6.

Mainstream English has traditionally incorporated Drama and Media Studies, but at PHS we are fortunate to be able to offer both as discrete subject areas with separate certification.  Our Drama specialist has introduced Standard Grade Drama for the first time with the first certification in 2004.  In addition Media Studies is offered in the senior school at Intermediate 2 with the possibility of Higher in the future.
