The S1 (new S2) Business Partnership Carrier Bag Logo Competition
May/June 2007

In May 2007 all S1 pupils took part in a competition to design a carrier bag logo for the Beltane Festival and for one of the following participating Peebles companies:

Caledonian Country Ware

Castlewarehouse Cookshop

Little Monkey's Toy Shop

The Gift Box

CW Labels

Prizes of £15, £10 and £5 were awarded for first, second and third place. Other good designs won commendation certificates. The first prize winner has also had their design produced on 1000 carrier bags for use by the shop during Beltane week.

The brief was for pupils to create a design for both sides of the carrier bag – one side to advertise the company and the other to advertise/celebrate Beltane. The design was limited to a maximum of two colours plus white.

First prize for the Beltane Logo went to Cameron Jardine of 1C3

First prize for the Company Logo went to Meg Johanessen of 1C1

Pupils had 2 weeks to complete their designs. Judging took place in 2 stages after all the entries were distributed to the relevant companies.

Stage 1 The companies chose what they considered to be their best 5 entries.

Stage 2 They then brought the best 5 to the final judging meeting where the prize winners were decided.

The criteria used were:-

1. Impact - attractiveness, clarity

2. Information - relevance and amount

3. Style - design awareness

And the winners for Beltane Logo were:-
