The LRC is located in the Millennium building and is a bright, spacious and very busy area. It provides resources to support the curriculum, helping pupils with investigations and encouraging them with their reading. It is staffed by a qualified Librarian and part-time Library Assistant.
There are a number of different areas in the LRC. The photograph shows the ICT area which houses 15 PCs. The new PCs no longer have floppy disk drives, but do have USB ports and a CD drive. In order to transfer information between home and school, the best ways are by using a memory stick or CD, or by emailing work back and forth. All pupils are issued with a school email address.
Next to the ICT area is the Careers Library, where pupils have up-to-date careers literature. Chris Conway, the school’s Careers Advisor, has a room next to the Careers Library and pupils may make an appointment to see him by filling in an appointment form, available in the LRC. Chris also runs a lunchtime look-in session on a Tuesday from 1.20 pm. It’s not necessary to make an appointment for this, and pupils from all year groups are welcome.
The rest of the LRC houses junior and senior fiction sections, non-fiction, local history, staff library and reference sections. There is also an area for newspapers and magazines, and a reading area for S5 and S6 pupils.
Thanks to the generosity of the school’s PTA, we have been able to acquire DVDs. These are kept at the issue desk, and are available for loan to pupils and staff.
Please come along to the LRC to have a look at all the facilities on offer.
