Outward Bond
Each year in June our S6 cohort's "Residential Experience" takes place at the Loch Eil Centre. A former shooting lodge on the edge of a sea loch by Fort William, the centre offers our students immediate access to a magnificent wilderness of mountains, islands, rivers, sea lochs and forests. We tailor our students' programme to address the twin general aims of "Personal Development" and "Team Building". Working in small groups under the tuition of Outward Bound qualified instructors, our students are presented with a range of powerful challenges and learning experience to exercise their physical and mental resources.
The school perceives such value in this S6 experience, both for the individual student and the ethos and cohesion of the year group, that 100% participation by S6 is encouraged.

Outward Bound Peebles High School 2007
"we are all better than we know. If only we can be brought to realize this, we may never be prepared to settle for anything less." Kurt Hahn
Through outdoor challenges we learnt the meaning of what is the greatest sentences in the English language: "I can."
Some advice for you from last years Outward Bounders
Outward Bound is one of the best weeks you will ever have.
You achieve so much, get to know lots of other people and you come back feeling like you can do anything.
You learn skills that you can use for evermore.
You don’t have to be the “outdoors type” to have a brilliant time on the Outward Bound course – everyone should go.
Everyone who went really enjoyed it and everyone I know who didn’t go now wishes they had.
Everyone found success and came back stronger, mentally and physically
On Outward Bound
Not only did we have great fun, but all of us learnt many new skills, found out a lot about ourselves and bonded with others in our year group, but we were also great ambassadors for Peebles High School. The Outward Bound staff and Peebles High School staff were extremely impressed by all of last years participants. Can this year group do even better?
Here are some of the Learning Outcomes reported back by last years clans
Cameron Clan We all worked well together. Organisation. We learned about trust and communication. We learned to go for it. We learned that you can do anything you put your mind to.
McLean Clan We had to adapt to different peoples weakness and strengths. We learned that some people work at different rates. We have learned loads of different things.
MacDonald Clan We got golden team spirit. We helped each other through it. We learned to communicate to get things done.
Stewart Clan A bunch of vagabonds have managed to bond together. We learned how to motivate each other properly. We learned to trust each other. It was amazing fun.
McKay Clan There is no ‘I’ in the team. Motivation, Initiative, Banter … essential elements of a good team.
MacPherson Clan To achieve our goal we all had to communicate. Take time to listen to instructions and plan what you are going to do. No matter how hard something is, if you want it hard enough and you work with others you can achieve it.
McLeod Clan Humour keeps you sane. You can achieve more in a team as an individual. If you don’t go for it now you will regret it later. I can do things now that I couldn’t do before. Leadership skills/I am now more assertive.
