The Rob Kerr Prize for Photography
The Dr. Rob Kerr Prize for Photography’.
In 2004, Mrs. Grace Kerr established this competition in memory of her husband, Rob, who was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and photographer. Mrs Kerr donated a silver trophy to be awarded annually and also funds both the framing of the winning photograph, which winner keeps, and the cash prizes for the winner and runner-up. The school has another copy of the winning photograph framed; also the runner-up photo and seven ‘highly commended’ photographs are mounted in a single frame. These are on display in the school.
The rules and arrangements are set out below: The purpose of this competition is to encourage pupils to develop their skills in photography and increase their appreciation of the natural environment. The wife of the late Dr. Rob Kerr, Rector of Peebles High School from 1986 to 2003, has established the competition. The judges will be Mrs. Grace Kerr and her family. The winning photograph will be framed and hung in the school for a year, and then returned to the prizewinner. The prizewinner will receive a trophy to keep for a year; his/her name will be engraved on the trophy. The prizewinner and runner-up will receive monetary prizes of £50 and £25 respectively.
The competition is open to all pupils, S1 to S6. Entries must be of ‘the great outdoors’; for example, scenic views or wildlife. Photographs can be taken on school or family trips, or on outings with friends. Photographs can be of local scenes, or scenes elsewhere in Scotland/Britain, or abroad. Closing date for entries is the first Friday in May. Entries should be handed to Mr. Waller (M37). Entries must show the pupil’s name and where the photograph was taken.
