Staff continue to embrace the challenges of Curriculum for Excellence and are focussed more on how our students are taught, how they learn and how they think. We are already delivering many of the Government’s expectations in developing young people’s skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.

Next year’s first year will be the first group of pupils to follow the Curriculum for Excellence. Skills development will play a major part of the pupils’ learning.   Standard Grades and Intermediate examinations will disappear after June 2012.

The sixth year is involved in many projects, which involve leadership and team-building activities with outcomes benefiting the school and the community. These projects are local, within Scotland, Europe and Africa.

Our senior school council maintains an important role in the school. Recently they organised and led the Remembrance services within the school as well as the Peebles Community Remembrance Service. They will end the school term by leading the whole school in a Christmas service in the Old Parish Church. They have undertaken many other leadership roles including organising a sponsored walk for primary seven pupils.

The school gained the International School’s Award three years ago as a result of the international developments taking place within the school. We have been invited to re-apply for the award. Many of the projects are summarised below:

Namibia
A group of students, former students and teachers spent four weeks working in a school helping the Namibian teachers and pupils in English Mathematics and Science.

Rwanda
Several S6 students and former students are travelling to Rwanda as part of a Law and Justice project next summer.

Clubs and activities continue to thrive with rugby, hockey, volleyball and basketball attracting many students from S1 to S6. Many of our rugby and hockey teams have excelled at a national level. Musical activities continue unabated with a Christmas Concert being performed by the musicians and singers. We also have many other clubs including mountain biking, chess, juggling, volleyball and House competitions etc.
