Applications to Higher Education

UCAS applications
UCAS is the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service.

If you want to take a full time course leading to a degree, a Diploma or Certificate of Higher Education, or a Higher National Diploma or Certificate at a university, or other institution of higher education in the UK, you must apply through UCAS.

Important  2008 (2009)

For entry in 2008 (or 2009 if you defer for one year), you will apply online using the online UCAS service, APPLY. You can access this secure application system through the UCAS website, http://www.ucas.com/.
When to apply to UCAS

The important dates for entry in 2008 are
.            for applications including Oxford, Cambridge, or a degree in Dentistry, Medicine or Veterinary Medicine/Veterinary Science, apply before 15 October 2007
.           for other applications (except Art and Design Route B but including Art and Design Route A), apply before 15 January 2008... you can apply later but your chances of getting on the course you want will not be so good, as many courses will be full
.          for Art and Design courses via Route B, apply between 1 January 2008 and 24 March 2008, preferably before 7 March 2007
.         the final closing date for an initial UCAS application is 30 June 2008 (12 June for Art and Design courses via Route B)
.         if you apply after this, your application will be entered in Clearing
For the best chance of getting the place you want, make sure your application is ready in good time. We need time to add a reference before sending your application off, so get your part done with plenty of time to spare.

YOU MUST NOTE THAT PEEBLES HIGH SCHOOL WILL SET DEADLINE DATES THAT ENABLE EFFICIENT PROCESSING OF YOUR APPLICATION. YOU HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THESE.

YOUR APPLICATION

Using the system - how to complete your application

Log on to www.ucas.com
Click on"apply"
Click on   student login, 2008 entry
.          you can use APPLY anywhere with internet access

.         you can re-work and re-save information on the application form as often as you need before forwarding it electronically through the ucas system to your pupil support teacher for a reference.

You must register with APPLY. To do this, you need to get a buzzword from us. This lets UCAS know which organisation you are applying from.

THIS YEARS  BUZZWORD IS        EDUCATION
When you register
.       you fill in your personal details
.       this process generates a username (in lower case)
.       you are asked to provide a password (remember you must always enter your password in the case you use when you register)
.       you must also provide a security question¡K and the desired answer
.       you enter your buzzword only once, then you do not need it any more
.       you should note your username at once - it will not be displayed again
.       make a note of your password - keep it safe, with your username
.       It is a good idea to give your pupil support teacher your username and password
.
if you lose your username and password, you can click on 'lost password' and your security question and answer will find your password.
You do not have to complete your application when you register. Once you have registered you can complete the application online in your own time.

.         you can re-work and re-save information on the application form as often as you need before forwarding it electronically through the ucas system to your pupil support teacher for a reference.

Completed applications cannot be submitted before mid September 2006

 More Information

There is a huge amount of information for you on the UCAS website

You can take the "Stamford Test" ....  this is really worthwhile if you are undecided about what to study.

You can search for all the courses that are offered by a particular institution in the UK.

You can search to find out which institutions in the UK offer a course that interests you.

You can search on a regional UK basis..e.g. Scottish courses only.

Most importantly, you can find out what the entry requirements are.

So, combined with the information from a prospectus and open day visits,
you can discover the answers to all the questions that you may have !!!

Of course, your pupil support teacher will be able to offer support, knowledge and advice.

Finally
The UK Conservatoires of music have joined UCAS. For entry to any of the seven main UK conservatoires including RSAMD in 2007, you must apply through the new online system, CUKAS (Conservatoires UK Admissions Service). You can access this at http://www.cukas.ac.uk/. You will find details of the process there. You can apply for a place at up to six Conservatoires at one time, with only one electronic application.
.    for entry to a conservatoire in 2007, you should apply to CUKAS before 1 October 2006
.    you need 2 references, one academic and one music ¡V these are sent direct to the Conservatoire by your referee
.    CHECK THE CUKAS WEBSITE !!
