Careers Library
This is situated within the Learning Resource Centre. It is staffed at specific times during the day and, under normal circumstances, at lunch times also. The Careers Adviser will be available for consultation, without appointment, on a Tuesday lunchtime (1.20 – 1.50 pm).
The resources (none of which are more than 2 years old) are divided into 5 colour coded sections to ensure they are easily accessible:
• (BLUE) Finding Out About Careers (Large selection of factual and case study information on careers)
• (GREEN) Applying for Work and Training (Modern Apprenticeships/Skillseekers, Local Employer Information, CV’s/Application form information)
• (YELLOW) Going to University (Prospectuses, UCAS Information, Finance)
• (ORANGE) Taking a Year Out (Volunteering, Work/Travel Abroad, Activity Projects)
• (RED) Going to College (Prospectuses and Finance)
Pupils are free to browse and some materials may be borrowed for a limited period.
There is a dedicated computer available to research careers outside the Careers Room in the LRC. Pupils can access websites (see suggestions below) and career interest guides such as Set Point/Match Point (these programmes help guide our pupils through the decision making process from S2 subject choice to obtaining professional qualifications).
The Careers Scotland website has a very useful section specifically for parents and can be found at
www.careers-scotland.org.uk.
