S2
The aim of the careers programme, especially in S2, is to start pupils thinking about themselves, introducing ideas of self awareness through self assessment. This leads, after consultation with the careers staff, to making more informed decisions on subject choices for S3. Pupils can then opt for a realistic, balanced course of study that keeps open as many career options as possible.
During the S2 Social Education Programme, pupils are helped to put together ideas about themselves, their aptitudes and capabilities, and the relationship of these to possible career areas. All of these help when forming guidelines for choosing subjects. Pupils will meet the Careers Adviser and be introduced to the Careers Library. Pupils should remember the following points:-
1. aim for a balanced course of study by choosing a range of subjects, 2. be realistic, 3. keep doors open to help with possible future changes in career ideas.
In a time of rapid changes at work, in training and further education, the school can offer guidance and advice to individual pupils and their parents.
