S5/S6
The decision about which subjects to study and at which level, requires a great deal of consideration, and is based on consultation between students, parents, heads of department, guidance staff and careers officers.
The senior students will use the CD roms ‘Plan-IT’ and ‘Progress’ to help with their career plans and the monitoring of their academic progress.
Pupils will also receive guidance through our social education programme. This deals with values, contemporary issues, relationships, drugs, time-management, life preparation, assertiveness, careers, leisure etc. All these topics will assist in the personal and social development of the senior student.
In addition to formal guidance, staff encourage seniors to be more involved in the life of their school. A special senior students’ opportunities sheet operates for class 6. This allows students to accept responsibilities eg helping at S1 residential week, in the school library, in associated primary schools etc. They are encouraged to be responsible for their own social area (controlled by a senior committee). The committee run their own meetings. They organise and participate in social events (charity concerts, discos etc).
Sixth year students agreements will be used to highlight the rights and responsibilities of seniors whilst at school.
