Development Policy
|
Purpose
This
policy provides an overview of our Staff Development processes and is intended
to:
- acknowledge
the evolving role of schools in society and the requirement that
competences and knowledge of all staff need frequent review and
development
- make
explicit the link between the entitlement to effective staff development
activities and individual, team and school improvement
- outline
the procedures, roles and responsibilities of all staff in the process
Principles
Staff
Development:
- helps
individual members of staff acquire knowledge, skills, competences or
awareness which will allow them to fulfil their responsibilities more
effectively
- is
intended to allow individuals, groups and teams to identify and discuss
development and training which will assist them in their current role and
prepare them for future roles
- prepares
individuals and teams for changes that affect their roles and tasks,
equipping them to meet challenges and release creativity
- encourages
the use of structured self-reflection to enable individuals and teams to
identify ways of improving effectiveness of performance
- helps
groups of staff or departments/faculties work more effectively together as
teams and have a positive impact on morale
- enables
staff who acquire new skills to have these recognised and/or gain
qualifications which will equip them for future career development
- is
a shared responsibility between the individual member of staff, those with
line management responsibilities and Scottish Borders Council
Changes
to the Staff Development process will be based on well-considered rationale,
involving consultation with stakeholders and monitored and evaluated for impact
on the learning experience.
Staff
development operates within the constraints of available finances and is
subject to priorities determined by the school improvement plan.
